Roswell, New Mexico (WIHINMTX)- The Roswell Police Department have responded to an officer involved shooting. The shooting happened just after 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 10th, 2024. The shooting occurred along the relief route in South Roswell. The Police Department states that the officer is okay. Police said in a press release “The incident began as a traffic stop near South Sunset Avenue and West Brasher Road. The male suspect fled in the vehicle he was in. The suspect, who has a warrant for his arrest, was shot after fleeing on foot from the vehicle at the Relief Route location. The suspect was carrying a rifle when he fled the vehicle. The officer is okay.” The investigation is ongoing and New Mexico State Police is investigating the shooting. The Relief Route is Closed Between S. Main St. and S. Sunset Ave.
As the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office was responding to the shooting after an officer requested assistance. A Chaves County Sheriff’s Deputy wrecked his patrol vehicle into a semi at the intersection of E. Brasher Rd. And SE. Main St. The deputy was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.
