Drag Race leads to police chase, driver charged in Roswell Saturday.

Roswell, New Mexico (WIHINMTX)- Chaves County sheriffs were involved in a police chase Saturday after a sheriff deputy observed two cars drag racing. According to the Chaves County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, two vehicles were racing forcing the deputy to merge into the turning lane to avoid being hit. The deputy activated his emergency lights to attempt to pull over the car. The driver then began to flee from the deputy, and turned North onto Garden Ave. from 2nd St. The driver lost control and wrecked. The driver has been charged with Racing on. Highway, and aggravated fleeing.

At approximately 0135 hours this morning 2 vehicles were observed racing. A Chaves County Sheriff’s Deputy had to move over to the turning lane in order to avoid collision from rear. The Deputy engaged his emergency equipment in order to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield to emergency equipment and immediately attempted to turn north on garden losing control and crashing at the intersection of 2nd and Garden. The Driver was charged with racing on a highway and aggravated fleeing.
