Chaves County emergency services responded to a fatal accident on Friday, September 16, 2022. 911 calls were made to the Roswell, NM 911 center just before 6:40 Friday in reference to a vehicle crash on NM State Road 2 & Darby Rd. When Fire Department arrived and found two vehicles involved, one that rolled over and was fully engulfed. Chaves County emergency services found one teen, Justus Sanders deceased and another teen, Wyatt Garner was taken to a Lubbock, TX area Hospital and older man injured. The two teens are from Dexter, NM. Both boys played football at Dexter High School. Dexter High School Principal Debbie Dumlao said in a statement yesterday, that grief counselors will be present at the High School for students and staff. The teens names have been shared on social media in the past days, but have not been officially named by officials. New Mexico State Police is in charge of investigating. A car wash two raise founds for both families is going on today (10-4), at Dexter Fire & Rescue station 1 (200 E. Second St. Dexter, NM 88230). A candle light vigil has been Planned for tonight at Dexter Demon Football Stadium @ 7:30.
