Lea County, New Mexico (WIHINM)- Alexis Avila the Hobbs mother accused of throwing away her baby back in January 2022, has been found guilty by a jury Friday. A jury with the Lea County 5th Judicial District court found Alexis Avila guilty of First Degree attempted murder (2nd Degree felony) and with child abuse resulting in great bodily harm (1 degree felony). The three day long trial has now come to an end. Alexis Avila was caught on surveillance camera of throwing away her new born baby, 10 hours later dumpsters divers found the baby and called police. The baby was taken to a Hobbs hospital before being airlifted to a Lubbock, TX hospital. Alexis Avila wanted to have a venue change after she claimed that she would not have a fair trial from all the media attention, but a judge ruled that she would face trial in Lea County and he would not be Changing the venue because she was unable to prove that a jury would be prejudice. Alexis Avila could face up 18 years in prison with this conviction.
