The Lovington, NM Police Department said in a statement on Facebook Tuesday. That police officers from Lovington, Tatum, and the Lea County Sheriff's Office will participate in a active shooter training at Lovington High School Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 7AM.

LOVINGTON, N.M. - SEPTEMBER 20, 2022 - On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the Lovington Police Department and the Lovington Municipal Schools will be conducting the most comprehensive active shooter response training in our city's history. This training is being made possible by the Lea County Sheriff's Office, who will provide the instructors, curriculum and training equipment. The training will be held at Lovington High School starting at approximately
7:00 A.M. and continue into the evening. Additional information includes:The school and surrounding areas will be blocked off for the day.Previously scheduled LHS soccer games will not be impacted.
• No live ammunition will be used - the scenario-based training utilizes "Simunition" non-lethal training equipment.The training will involve city government officials, school administration, school faculty, Lovington Fire & EMS, the Lea County Communication Authority, the Tatum Police Department and the press.
30-40 role players age 16 and over will be participating to make the training as realistic as possible.
This will be a controlled exercise, with safety officers, and anyone not taking part in the exercise will not be allowed in the high school on this day. All training will take place indoors.
The Lea County Sheriff's Office will assist with taking patrol calls throughout the day within the city to allow as many LPD officers as possible to attend this training.
