Red Flag Warning, affecting more than 2.8 million people in TX & NM

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning, Thursday, April 15, 2022, around 6:00 CDT, 7:00 MDT. The Red Flag Warning is expected to expire on Monday, April 18, 2022, Around 11:00 CDT, 10:00 MDT. The Red Flag Warning which is Impacting more than 2.8 million people in TX & NM.


With two large fires growing in NM, The McBride Fire near Ruidoso, NM, Which is at 6,200 acres, and 0% contained and the Hermits peak Fire in The Santa Fe National Forest, which is at 7,000+ acres and 33% contained. The strong winds which will reach 55-65 MPH, low humidity, excessive heat, and dry brush. Can and will cause more wildfires to spread rapidly and make it harder, for Firefighters to get a control on fires started by poor judgment. A ban on all Out Door Burning is In effect.

- Dangers: High Wind 55-65 MPH, Fire Danger, Low Humidity, & Cross Winds.


- What To Watch For: Strong winds, crosswinds, fire danger, blowing dust (brownout conditions), falling or down trees, falling or down Power poles, & flying objects.


- Actions: tie-down all loose items, stay clear of down trees or power poles, drive carefully in brownout conditions, No Throwing out cigarettes out windows, don't drive through dry brush, and watch for dragging chains on trailers & Call 911 for down power poles or fires.


- Avoid: dirt roads, avoid down power poles again call 911, avoid areas with debris, Dry brush, lighting fires. (Outdoor Burning Is Prohibited 🚫).


- Counties Affected: All Of NN & All Of West Texas, & Southern Texas . This includes the towns of (NM) Roswell, Clovis, Carlsbad, Artesia, Hobbs, Jal, Tucumcari, Clayton, Raton, Santa Rosa, Farmington, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Deming, Anthony, T or C, Gallup, & Fort Sumner. (TX) Amarillo, Midland, Odessa, Dalhart, Borger, Van Horn, Pecos, Lubbock, Brownfield, Andrews, Planview, & Littlefield.


- Timing: 1:00 PM Texas Time (CDT) Thursday, April 15, 2022, 2:00 PM New Mexico Time (MDT) Thursday, April 15, 2022, to 11:00 PM Texas Time (CDT) Monday, April 18, 2022, and 10:00 PM New Mexico Time (MDT) Monday, April 18, 2022.
