Santa Fe, NM – October 11, 2022, On Monday evening, Santa Fe Police Officers arrested Joshua Vialpando (36 years old) of Chimayo, and David Delgado (22 years old) of Santa Fe, following two shoplifting incidents. When officers initially contacted the suspects on Cerrillos Road during a traffic stop, the suspects fled in a vehicle, striking two vehicles as they evaded police.

Patrol Officers first responded to the Walmart Super Center on Herrera Drive. While gathering information on a shoplifting involving Mr. Vialpando and Mr. Delgado, they were informed of a priority call at Home Depot on Richards Avenue concerning a shoplifting. It was learned the suspects took an air compressor from the store. The information relayed matched the same description as the suspects that carried out the shoplifting at Walmart, including the vehicle the suspects fled in.

Officers located the vehicle on Cerrillos Road and initiated a traffic stop at the Zafarano Drive intersection in the turn lane. Officers asked the driver to turn the vehicle off and exit the vehicle. The driver, Mr. Vialpando, refused commands and accelerated his vehicle in an attempt to flee, crashing into another vehicle stopped at the intersection. Mr. Vialpando continued to accelerate, pushing the other vehicle as officers attempted to take him into custody. After an officer used a baton to break the driver side window, Mr. Vialpando placed his vehicle in reverse and accelerated backward, striking another vehicle and nearly striking another officer on scene. Mr. Vialpando then fled the area.

The Santa Fe Regional Emergency Communications Center later received a call from the owner of the vehicle, who reported her vehicle was at a residence near the intersection of Alamosa Drive and Camino Redondo. The caller said she was told her vehicle was at the residence and was not aware it had been stolen. The vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle.

Officers responded to the location, learned from a bystander that two males were observed exiting the truck and had entered the residence at 2728 Alamosa Drive. Officers made contact with the occupants of the residence and were able to take Mr. Vialpando into custody without further incident. When officers served a search warrant on the residence, they located the second suspect, Mr. Delgado, in the kitchen. Mr. Delgado was taken into custody

Mr. Delgado was arrested for Two Counts of Felony Shoplifting.

Mr. Vialpando was arrested for Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer, Two Counts of Felony Shoplifting, Resisting, Evading or Obstructing an Officer, Five Counts of Trafficking a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, Suboxone, Crack Cocaine, and Xanax), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Receiving or Transferring a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
